Taylor Goldsmith's Altadena studio and instruments were destroyed by January Southern California wildfires. Less than a month later, he stood on the Grammy stage to sing a revised version of Randy Newman's "I Love L.A." He and his brother Griffin, Dawes' drummer who lost his home in the fires, led an all-star band that included John Legend. The live audience included Taylor Swift and George Clooney, and over 15 million viewers watched on television. Goldsmith described the experience as amazing, touching and complicated and modified the lyrics to reflect the city's recovery. Dawes will perform as a duo at Luther Burbank Center in Santa Rosa on Sept. 27. The center lost part of its building and its student instrument lending library in the 2017 Tubbs Fire, creating a kinship with wildfire survivors.
