"And, it sort of confirms why I need to do it (playing a part in an Oz production), Because everyone has such a connection to it ... and I'm standing on the shoulders of legends who've done this. I know this piece is important. It makes me smile knowing that 10 to 20 years from now, somebody will be bringing their kids to the show and they'll say, 'Alan Mingo was my Wiz.'"
"people fall in love with it, from all races and creeds,"
"You'll get all the jokes."
Nearly the entire cast of the Broadway revival tour is new. The production brings the Tony Award-winning alt-version of The Wizard of Oz to Keller Auditorium Feb. 3-8. Alan Mingo Jr. is the only widely known actor in the role of The Wiz from the pre-tour Broadway revival and the year-long tour. He began rehearsals in January 2025 and has toured about a year. Mingo previously played roles such as Simba, Donkey and Sebastian and performed as Lola in Kinky Boots. The show presents a family musical from a Black perspective that appeals to audiences of all races and includes a striking post-intermission entrance with a big green costume, makeup and top hat.
