"I think what's stuck with me most about 'Back to the Wind' is the way the imagery ended up unfolding across the instrumental. In the past, we've always insisted that each word on a lyric sheet so deliberately leads you back to the sentiment of the hook that it almost leaves no room for imagination. With 'BTTW,' it felt more compelling to steer the second half into a series of images that might mean something different to each person that hears it."
Whitney released "Back to the Wind," the third preview from their forthcoming fifth studio album Small Talk, following "Darling" and "Dandelions." The new track's music video was directed by Alex Pennacchia. A series of 2026 tour dates was announced covering the United States, Canada, Europe, and the United Kingdom, with a detailed schedule listed. Lyrical imagery on "Back to the Wind" unfolds across the instrumental and guides the second half into a set of images that may mean different things to different listeners. The song was the first written for the record and pushed the band toward deeper lyrical exploration; the guitar solo receives specific praise.
