Meet the "twin cousins" who discovered they're both gay & turned their bond into a hit podcast - Queerty
"We're more brothers than cousins. Our dads are brothers and our moms are sisters. So, two brothers met two sisters and decided to get married. Then they had kids and we grew up three months apart, two streets away from each other, and then, lo and behold, we grew up and we says, 'Hey! We both like boys! We're gay!' We shared the same life journey from zero years old all the way until now."
"It's always been in our spirit to be creative. We have the tools and we have the know-how to bring this beautiful community forward and really reignite the conversation as something that celebrates as opposed to something that always drags us down."
"While our podcast is very fun and very LGBTQIA+-minded, we also do have hard conversations, and I think that's OK. The kiki can be fun. It can be serious. But as long as we're having a kiki, we're good."
Bryan and Jon Ruiz, biological twin cousins who grew up three months apart, launched Out Loud & Laughing podcast to create space for community conversations infused with radical queer joy. The show reached 100 episodes by mixing natural comedic chemistry with thoughtful discussions, offering an alternative to media's focus on trauma. Their mission centers on celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community rather than perpetuating negativity. The podcast balances fun, lighthearted moments with serious conversations about issues affecting the community. Currently in their "Season of Celebration," they feature special guests while maintaining their commitment to reigniting community dialogue through celebration and authentic connection.
