The Nassau County Police Department celebrated its centennial anniversary with a grand parade that drew thousands of spectators along a Long Island highway. The event featured nearly 2,000 marchers, including a large number of motorcycle officers. County Executive Bruce Blakeman referred to it as "a super block party." Attendees expressed gratitude for the police's contributions to community safety, while children enjoyed interactive moments, like petting police K-9s. The celebration honored the department's modest origins, which began with just 55 officers, now expanded to one of the country's largest forces.
"Thank you, thank you! Absolutely I'm grateful to them. Do you think this would be the safest place to live like it is without them?" - Rose Lule.
"I'm pretty sure they're not supposed to do that. The best part of the parade was the dogs! Even better than the tanks!" - Sean Joseph.
"I'm proud of our boys, and I'm also proud of all of them out here today." - Susan Shutowich.
County Executive Bruce Blakeman called the event a "super block party" to celebrate a century of service from the Nassau County Police Department.
