Mister Softee opens first ever brick-and-mortar on Long Island: 'People have been waiting for this'
"I was always planning to open a store, but this business was only from Memorial Day to Labor Day. We didn't have income during the winter, so it was very difficult."
"Since its March 1 debut at 195 Carleton Ave. in East Islip - the former home of Pat's Ice Cream Shoppe for 40 years - cone-crazed customers have been lining up around the block."
"We are really happy, and business has been so good. I think a lot of people have been waiting for this."
"My goal is to make people happy. People love it - the kids especially. ... When they see ice cream, they start laughing and they just love it."
Mister Softee has established its first permanent location in East Islip, Long Island, transforming from a seasonal truck operation to a year-round ice cream shop. Franchise owner Jimmy Ilya, who has been operating a Mister Softee truck since 2010, aimed to provide a consistent ice cream experience, especially for customers who couldn't catch the moving truck. The store debuted on March 1, 2024, offering a wide variety of soft serve and hard ice cream flavors, and has seen an enthusiastic customer response since its opening.
