Briefly

On June 17, 2025, GrowNYC unveiled a new cold storage facility in Hunts Point, funded by $40 million and supported by various city and state officials. This decade-long project aims to significantly increase the distribution of fresh food to communities, schools, and agencies in New York City. The facility includes advanced storage capabilities like temperature-controlled rooms and a green roof for sustainability, ultimately expected to create over 200 jobs and enhance local food distribution by 600% by 2034, aligning with efforts to strengthen Bronx's food ecosystem.
"The revolutionary project will create more than 200 jobs and a 600% increase in locally sourced food distribution by 2034," Hochul stated at the press conference.
"This facility will allow millions more pounds of fresh, healthy food to flow into the community each year," said Marcel Van Ooyen, GrowNYC's CEO.
