In a lively contest at Son Del North Mexican restaurant, George Gountas was crowned the best look-alike of Pedro Pascal. This event, inspired by Pascal's humorous comment about New York's Mexican food scene, saw Gountas win not only $50 but also a year's supply of burritos. His wife initiated his participation as a Father's Day treat, with Gountas overcoming nearly 30 competitors. The contest aimed to spread joy amid difficult times, reflecting the restaurant's mission to uplift spirits in the community.
Gountas of Greenpoint edged out nearly 30 other people for the title.
Restaurant chef and co-owner Annisha Garcia said the inspiration for the Manhattan contest came from Pascal's famous 2023 quip that there was no decent Mexican food in the Big Apple.
Co-owner Wim Shih said the whole idea behind the contest was to bring a smile to folks during troubled times.
It's funny, because he's not on social media at all. But now he's going to be everywhere.
