Petros Krommidas, a Long Island Democrat running for a Nassau County Legislature seat, went missing after a training swim last Wednesday night at Long Beach. His family believes he likely entered the sea while preparing for an upcoming triathlon. They found his locked car, towel, clothes, and phone nearby, leading to ongoing search efforts. Krommidas, 29, was known for his fitness and cold water training, and his disappearance is uncharacteristic. He recently spoke at a political meeting, days before he was last seen, and his community expresses deep concern for his well-being.
Krommidas, who is running for a seat on the Nassau County Legislature, hasn't been seen since he set off for a training swim last Wednesday night at Long Beach.
His family reported him missing the following day, noting it was 'completely out of character for him not to respond.'
Just two days prior to him vanishing, Krommidas, a former student-athlete at Columbia University, had addressed the Nassau County Young Democrats' monthly meeting ahead of his election primary on June 24.
'We are heartbroken over the disappearance of Petros Krommidas,' Nassau County Democratic Committee Chairman Jay Jacobs said in a statement.
