NYC introduces new 25-gallon trash bin in response to residents' demands
Briefly

New York City has launched a new 25-gallon trash bin, responding to residents' demands for more size options. This new bin complements the existing 35-gallon and 45-gallon containers. The change aims to enhance sanitation efforts by locking waste securely, thus reducing rodent issues. City Councilman Lincoln Restler played a key role in advocating for this smaller option. The recent legislation allows free bins for eligible one- or two-family homeowners, enhancing accessibility for about 265,000 residents at an estimated cost of $14.5 million.
We are proud to be able to offer city residents with even more choices in finding the right waste bin to meet their individual or building's needs.
The legislation requires the city to provide official cans free of charge to owners of one- or two-family homes who also receive benefits under the New York School Tax Relief Program.
