NYC no longer covering legal bills for Tim Pearson in sex harassment, retaliation suits
"Based on my review of new evidence since the original decisions were made, I have determined that he is not entitled to representation by the City in these matters. Thus, the City will no longer pay for Mr. Pearson's legal representation."
"Pearson was sued in 2024 by four current and former NYPD employees alleging he sexually harassed one of them and then retaliated against the others when they spoke out."
"The city's Law Department can itself provide legal representation for city workers being sued in relation to their officials duties, but the department determined it couldn't rep Pearson and others named as co-defendants, including Maddrey, since it was already representing one of his accusers in a separate matter."
Corporation Counsel Steve Banks announced that the City will no longer provide taxpayer-funded legal representation to Tim Pearson, a former aide to Mayor Adams, in lawsuits alleging sexual harassment and retaliation. The decision follows Banks' review of new evidence regarding Pearson's eligibility for city-funded representation. A private law firm, Wilson Elser, had been retained to represent Pearson and ex-NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey after the Law Department determined it could not represent them due to conflicts of interest. As of January, the firm had been paid $622,931 for Pearson's representation alone. The order also applies to Maddrey's representation. Other defendants in the cases, including Deputy Inspector Joseph Profeta and ex-Chief John Chell, will continue receiving Law Department representation.
