Brad Lander, NYC Comptroller and mayoral candidate, was detained by ICE agents while trying to support migrants in court. During his demonstration, he locked arms with migrants to help them avoid detention. However, ICE agents intervened, leading to Lander's arrest. Though he was released after hours, he highlighted the continued struggles of the migrants he was assisting, particularly Edgardo, who faced negative consequences from ICE separation. His actions and statements underscored concerns about the rule of law and the treatment of immigrants in the U.S.
I will be fine, but Edgardo is not going to be fine and the rule of law is not fine; and our constitutional democracy is not fine.
