The new luxury capsule hotel in Waikiki, opening in May by First Cabin International, offers affordable accommodation targeting Japanese travelers facing a challenging exchange rate. With stacked capsule-style rooms, the hotel aims to provide comfort and amenities inspired by airline first-class cabins at competitive rates of around $120 per night. Operations manager Mariko Yamaguchi highlighted an increasing number of Japanese visitors post-pandemic, despite rising accommodation costs. The hotel seeks to accommodate both tourists and local interest, allowing visitors to split their stay with other hotels for better savings.
"[The] yen is so weak, and for Japanese guests, they have difficulty coming back to Hawaii. That's the reason [the owner] wanted to have affordable hotel in Waikiki."
"[It's] getting better and better, but at the same time all the accommodation is getting higher and higher. We hope that with our affordable prices, travelers can split their time between us and other hotels."
