"On June 30, 1965, the Atlanta Falcons officially took flight, thanks to the approval of then-NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle. Under the leadership of owner Rankin Smith Sr., the franchise was set to make its debut in 1966 as the league's 15th team. Smith made history by acquiring the Falcons for a groundbreaking price of $8.5 million-an unprecedented figure in the NFL at that time."
"According to a team source, the Falcons' 60th anniversary patches were created specifically for season ticket holders, and will not be used on team jerseys. It's a shame, too. I really like the design, it honestly has a touch of all of the decades, I think. The logo prominently showcases the number 60 in bold red, with the classic logo used from 1966 to 2002 on the left and the current logo used from 2003-present on the right."
"Even though the team will not be wearing the patch on their uniforms, they will still technically honor the past as they are set to wear their throwback uniforms with the popular red helmets in three games this season, against the Buffalo Bills on October 13, on the road against the Buccaneers on December 11, and hosting the Los Angeles Rams on December 29."
On June 30, 1965 the Atlanta Falcons were approved to join the NFL and prepared to debut in 1966 under owner Rankin Smith Sr., who purchased the team for $8.5 million. In December 2024 a 60th-anniversary patch for 2025 surfaced and generated expectations that the team might wear commemorative jersey patches. After the patch was absent in Week 1 versus Tampa Bay, a team source confirmed the patches were created exclusively for season-ticket holders and will not be used on jerseys. The patch features a bold red 60 flanked by the classic 1966–2002 logo and the current 2003–present logo. The team will wear throwback red-helmet uniforms in three 2025 games.
