Geno Smith and Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders were recorded making obscene gestures toward Seahawks fans prior to their preseason game. Video evidence showed Crosby engaging with fans and Smith joining in moments later. The incident echoed a previous fine given to Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch for a similar act directed at Packers fans. A sign taunting Smith about his predecessor, JaMarcus Russell, was also visible, suggesting that the players were provoked by fan interactions before making their gestures. The preseason game concluded in a draw, 23-23.
Crosby is seen bouncing on his feet and appears to be talking to fans and tries to grab a sign before making an obscene gesture.
Smith joins Crosby in jumping up and down and looks in the direction of those fans, ultimately making the obscene gesture.
The then-Oakland Raiders drafted Russell first overall in 2007, but he went 7-18 as the starting quarterback played only three seasons.
At least one fan appeared to be taunting the players before the gestures were made, with a sign reading: 'Bigger Bust -- Geno Or JaMarcus Russell?'.
