Sauce Gardner shadowed DK Metcalf on 30 of 34 pass plays in the Jets' 34-32 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, holding Metcalf to one catch for 11 yards and recording two pass break-ups. Gardner is the NFL's highest-paid cornerback and said his assignment was to eliminate No. 4. Coach Aaron Glenn called Gardner outstanding and indicated the team will ask him to travel with opponents' top receivers on multiple occasions depending on matchups. The Jets face Mike Evans, Tyreek Hill, CeeDee Lamb and Ja'Marr Chase in the first eight weeks. Previous coach Robert Saleh used a zone, fixed-side corner system.
