Why Geno Smith is settling in for the long haul in Las Vegas
"Vegas is perfect for me,"
"... Me being a Miami kid, and how I was raised and act, I really didn't fit the culture [in Seattle]."
"I finally got my team, I always felt like I was trying to replace Russell [Wilson in Seattle], and you can never replace all the great things that he did. So I never felt like Seattle was my team. Also, I didn't feel like I fit the aesthetic of the Seattle organization. The Raiders just fit me."
Geno Smith, a 34-year-old from Broward County, Florida, says Las Vegas suits his Miami upbringing with its heat and fast pace. Smith viewed Seattle as slow and sun-limited, and his personality never fully fit that environment despite productive years with the Seahawks. Traded to Las Vegas for a third-round pick on March 7, Smith walked into the Raiders as the designated starter and did not face a training-camp quarterback battle. Smith describes finally having a team that fits him and sees himself as part of the franchise’s plan to provide stability at quarterback.
