Lynden Lakovic believes he took big steps after summer training with NHL veterans: 'I'm real happy with the work I've put in.'
"Yeah, it's definitely a step for sure, a step up, but I know I'm ready for it. You just got to make a good first impression and be consistent throughout the week, and you never know what can happen. So, I'm real happy with the work I've put in, and I guess it's just time to show that now."
"I think a lot of board work, and I put on some pounds. Kind of just rounding out my defensive side of the game. And I think those are all traits you need to have at the next level. And I feel like those have all taken big steps this year."
"I trained with a lot of veteran NHL players. The Schenn brothers, to name a few, and Shea Theodore, to name another one. Just kind of learning from them, what it takes to make it, and really pushing yourself day to day. They're there helping you out. It really is an advantage, I'd say, and I think it's going"
Lynden Lakovic, an 18-year-old 6-foot-4, 200-pound winger, signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Washington Capitals and attended the first day of 2025 Rookie Camp. He will participate in the club's training camp next week but is likely to return to the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors for the 2025-26 season. Lakovic focused on board work, added weight and rounded out his defensive play over the offseason. He trained alongside veteran NHL players in his hometown, citing learning from veterans and daily pushing as advantages that accelerated his readiness for pro hockey.
