"[The first preseason game] is tough because you're always balancing the scrambly play, which you're gonna expect is going to be there, but you would like to see some semblance of the things that you've done and talked about this week," Carbery said Saturday. "The other two pieces that I look for are competitiveness, and then show your skill set. Then you evaluate that postgame and [say], 'Was this player able to do any of these things or all of them?'"
"The team's roster will be made up of a mix of core veterans, recent draft picks, AHL veterans, and players looking to make a full-time leap to the NHL this fall. Included in the group are nine players who featured in a game for the Capitals last season: Sonny Milano, Brandon Duhaime, Nic Dowd, Hendrix Lapierre, Ethen Frank, Ivan Miroshnichenko, Anthony Beauvillier, Trevor van Riemsdyk, and Logan Thompson."
The Washington Capitals open preseason against the Boston Bruins Sunday at TD Garden after three days of on-ice training camp. The roster blends core veterans, recent draft picks, AHL veterans, and players aiming for full-time NHL roles. Nine returning players include Sonny Milano, Brandon Duhaime, Nic Dowd, Hendrix Lapierre, Ethen Frank, Ivan Miroshnichenko, Anthony Beauvillier, Trevor van Riemsdyk, and Logan Thompson; Milano returns after injuries limited him to three games last season. Defenseman Declan Chisholm joins as a new acquisition with 99 career NHL games. Most of the roster completed line rushes at Saturday's skate before travel. Evaluation will focus on execution, competitiveness, and display of individual skill.
