Coverage of 9/11, from the archives | ABC7 New York Vault Channel
"NEW YORK (WABC) -- As we reflect on the 24th anniversary of 9/11, WABC-TV Channel 7 Eyewitness News has unveiled a new streaming channel, The ABC7 New York Vault, which in its debut will showcase coverage of 9/11 through the years. The channel features a rotating collection of content, beginning with our award-winning 2021 documentary, "Eyewitness to 9/11: Behind the Lens." The documentary tells the story of 9/11 from the perspective of the journalists who covered it, both on the streets and in the studio and newsroom of Channel 7."
"We will also stream rare extended takes of interviews with our journalists who were on the frontlines of news coverage that day, including N.J. Burkett, Joe Torres, Anthony Johnson, Nina Pineda, Lauren Glassberg and John Del Giorno. We are also sharing our late-night newscast from Sept. 10, 2001, a poignant final glimpse of the world as it was just hours before the destruction of the original World Trade Center brought us into a dark and terrifying new era in history."
"We also have original newscast coverage from the first major anniversary after 9/11, the sixth-month milestone. March 11, 2002, was a historic day, because it was the first time the Tribute in Light memorial was lit. That year, the twin beams of lights were lit every night for one month, in what proved to be a welcome solace in the skyline after such a painful time."
