Day 1 of early voting in NYC's 2025 general election concludes
"I think [Democratic nominee] Zohran [Mamdani] has really energized a lot of the public and people who don't, haven't participated in local elections in previous years until now, myself included. I've never actually voted for a mayor before."
"It's a big half-and-half for me. I'm just praying to god that whoever I voted for, that they do help us in a way, even though they can't, you know, get rid of Trump. I hope they're able to keep us secure and safe."
Day one of early voting in New York City drew 79,409 voters, compared with 15,418 on the first day in 2021. Manhattan recorded 24,046 early voters; Brooklyn 22,105; Queens 19,045; the Bronx 7,793; and Staten Island 6,420. Voters selected candidates for mayor, city comptroller, public advocate, borough presidents, city councilmembers, and some judges; Brooklyn and Manhattan included district attorney races. Some voters reported increased engagement tied to Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani and first-time mayoral participation, while others expressed uncertainty about candidate choice and hopes for protection from President Donald Trump. Six ballot questions address state forest land and city housing development.
