Heightened security at Cardozo High School after student was busted for bringing loaded gun onto Bayside campus: NYPD - QNS
"Students arriving at Benjamin Cardozo High School in Bayside on Friday, Sept. 19, saw increased security a day after one of their classmates was arrested for bringing a loaded semiautomatic handgun onto campus. The 16-year-old boy was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and making terrorist threats after he posted an image of what appeared to be a schoolwork with white lettering saying "Ts Gmt...boutta shoot the school up," at 10:17 a.m. on Sept. 18."
""We potentially saved the lives of a lot of students and staff today and I don't want to imagine a world where we would be making a different announcement right now," Adams said. "I also want to mention another life saved today, a 16-year-old child who had a gun. Because if that 16-year-old had carried out this act he either would have ended up dead or in jail for many years."
Students at Benjamin Cardozo High School encountered increased security after a classmate was arrested for bringing a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun to campus. A 16-year-old posted an image reading "Ts Gmt...boutta shoot the school up," prompting a tip to the FBI National Threat Operations Center. The FBI relayed the tip to the NYPD, whose officers and school safety agents removed the student from class. A parent consented to a search and officers recovered a loaded 9mm Taurus GX4 with 13 rounds. The teen was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and making terrorist threats. City officials credited law enforcement for potentially saving lives and called the situation a societal failure for allowing a minor access to a firearm.
