Train delays are common with Amtrak service, as demonstrated by an experience where a train was delayed for nearly an hour. At Penn Station, the track information remained unclear, leading to confusion among passengers. In contrast, the experience at Rochester's Louise M. Slaughter Station was more straightforward, with clear signage and staff guidance. During the rides, announcements about the café car closing prompted a preparation for snacks on the return trip, indicating a need for better communication about onboard services.
The train ended up being delayed nearly an hour for maintenance, and even when our track was set, the board didn't update for several minutes.
My experience in Rochester was much simpler. The signage was clear at Louise M. Slaughter Station, and a conductor came to speak to everyone waiting.
On both rides, a conductor announced through the PA system that the café car would close for about an hour. It wasn't a big deal, but I didn't realize there would be a time during my ride when I couldn't grab some food.
I brought a bag of Cheez-Its with me for my return trip so I would have a snack on hand if I got hungry during the closure.
