Mamdani's Landlord Crackdown Has Glaring Exception
"New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani signed an executive order " protecting tenants from rental ripoffs and abusive landlord practices" in early January. To that end, Mamdani established "Rental Ripoff Hearings," public hearings for tenants to air their grievances with their landlords. Of course, in true collectivist fashion, only testimony from private housing tenants will be permitted. Allegations of "abusive landlord practices" directed at the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) will be unwelcome."
"NYCHA is the largest public housing authority in North America, with half a million tenants - about one in 16 New Yorkers."
Mayor Zohran Mamdani signed an executive order intended to protect tenants from rental ripoffs and abusive landlord practices in early January. The order created Rental Ripoff Hearings, public hearings for tenants to air grievances with landlords. Only testimony from private housing tenants will be permitted at those hearings. Allegations of abusive landlord practices directed at the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) will be unwelcome. NYCHA is the largest public housing authority in North America and houses about half a million tenants, roughly one in 16 New Yorkers, who are thus excluded from the hearings.
