The Flatiron Building in New York City is set to unveil its first-ever exterior lighting later this year. Approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission, the design will illuminate the upper five floors with LED glow and highlight the intricate detailing on the lower façade. This initiative is part of a larger $161.5 million restoration effort, transforming the building into 38 private residences after being empty since 2019. Notable renovation activities include cleaning its façade and restoring more than 1,000 windows, marking a significant upgrade for the landmark.
The Flatiron Building will debut exterior lighting for the first time in its 123-year history, thanks to a new design plan by L'Observatoire International.
The lighting plan will spotlight the lower façade's ornate limestone, brick, and terra cotta details while bathing the upper five floors in LED glow.
This transformation is part of a multi-year, $161.5 million restoration effort to convert the building into 38 private residences.
After being long-vacant since 2019, the Flatiron Building is seeing significant renovations, including the meticulous restoration of thousands of terra cotta pieces.
