Tim Caffey, the Jensen Beach coach, discovered Jamien Sherwood, his star player, training on the football field during their off-season. Caffey had given players a week off, but Sherwood felt a compelling need to work hard. He believes that if he isn't improving, then his competitors are gaining an advantage. Sherwood has overcome various challenges, including shyness and an Achilles injury, to become a defensive leader for the Jets, earning a three-year contract in recognition of his progress and commitment.
Sherwood's commitment to improvement is evident in his work ethic. After a tough season, rather than resting, he was already preparing for the challenges ahead.
Coach Caffey was astounded by Sherwood's determination. Despite his instruction to take time off, Sherwood's mindset is that if he isn't working, others are working harder.
