Members of the Jewish community watched in horror in Crown Heights at 8:46 p.m. on Jan. 28 as the operator of a vehicle with New Jersey license plates repeatedly rammed into the doorway of 770 Eastern Pkwy. in Crown Heights."

A vehicle repeatedly rammed the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights at about 8:46 p.m. on Jan. 28, damaging the wooden front doors and prompting immediate evacuation. Witnesses reported horror and shouted for police as the driver reversed and accelerated into the doorway. The driver exited and told a responding officer that "it slipped," and was taken into custody. The NYPD Emergency Service Unit evacuated and swept the building and vehicle for weapons, and the Bomb Squad conducted a full sweep with no explosive devices found. No injuries were reported. The incident is under investigation as a hate crime.
