NY Islanders defenseman Isaiah George worked on all aspects of his game this summer
"It was the first time I got to play like some type of game situation [at camp]. So, it was really fun to just compete, score some goals, battle, so it was really good."
"Obviously, like less guys, too. So, you get more reps, you get going more and more right after each other. It's been really good. I feel like it's preparing us well going into main camp and just really getting the engines going here,"
"From a defensive perspective, I feel like they're really harping on the D getting up in transition and then being good on those two-on-ones defensively. Making sure you're pushing them outside and taking away that,"
Isaiah George used rookie camp to demonstrate growth after NHL appearances in 2024-25. He embraced game-like situations, competing, scoring, and battling in scrimmages while benefiting from increased ice time in a smaller camp group that delivered more reps and quicker recovery between shifts. Summer training targeted skating and playmaking to enhance NHL readiness. Coaching emphasis centered on pace, transition support, and defending two-on-ones by forcing opponents wide. Confidence from an NHL debut combined with sharp camp preparation positions George to continue building his game and pursue a larger role with the organization.
