NY Islanders relieve assistant coach Benoit Desrosiers of his duties
"Desrosiers was largely credited with his face off work in which the Islanders led the league in face-off percentage a season ago. This season the Islanders were 5th. Stability in the circle is crucial for success."
"Unfortunately for Benoit, he was always going to be collateral damage after the Patrick Roy firing. He is a great young hockey mind that will certainly bounce back in the industry."
Benoit Desrosiers, 37, was confirmed to be relieved of his duties as assistant coach for the New York Islanders after the 2025-26 season. He joined the Islanders when Patrick Roy took over as head coach in January 2024. Desrosiers previously coached in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and was credited for the Islanders' strong face-off performance, leading the league last season and ranking fifth this season. His departure follows Roy's firing, raising questions about future coaching staff decisions under Pete DeBoer.
