Stunning details of NY Islanders goaltender Semyon Valamov's injury revealed
"Two knee replacements? I mean, come on. That's not an easy thing for a goaltender, but he's been here a lot and he's been doing everything the right way. I'm sure it's great for him. He's been working so hard to be where he is."
"No one that I know works as hard as Varly. He's just so committed. To just persevere at every stop, it's inspiring to be honest with you. He's always seemed to have a positive outlook and a mindset that he was going get back and be on the ice."
Semyon Varlamov, the 37-year-old veteran goaltender for the New York Islanders, has been recovering from a serious lower-body injury since November 29, 2024. Head coach Patrick Roy revealed that Varlamov underwent two knee replacement surgeries during his rehabilitation. After months of intensive work behind the scenes, Varlamov rejoined the team at practice and faced shots on the ice, marking a significant milestone in his comeback. His teammates, including Mathew Barzal, praised his work ethic and determination. Varlamov has been instrumental in the Islanders' history since 2019, compiling a 76-63-21 record over 173 games. His extended absence prompted the team to sign veteran David Rittich as backup to primary goaltender Ilya Sorokin.
