Woodpecker General Store, a popular shop and deli on Route 9 in Staatsburg, closed effective immediately due to unforeseen health reasons. The store offered breakfast, lunch, coffee, ice sandwiches, a gift shop, and a grab-and-go market featuring made-to-order sandwiches and homemade sides using local, seasonal ingredients. Owners Gerard and Kelle expressed deep gratitude for community support, loyalty, and friendship and wished customers well. Gerard is a chef and a professor at the Culinary Institute of America. Despite the closure, customers can still purchase the store's decadent toffee, coffee, and other handmade gourmet treats online.
