"These statements are not indicative of who I am. As the mother of Jewish children, I feel a profound sense of sadness and remorse at the harm these words have caused,"
"Catherine expressed her deep remorse over her past statements and tendered her resignation, and I accepted,"
"echo classic antisemitic tropes and otherwise demean Jewish people."
Catherine Almonte Da Costa resigned after social media posts from 2011 and 2012 containing antisemitic tropes were shared online by the Anti-Defamation League. She expressed deep regret, said the statements are not indicative of who she is, and said that as the mother of Jewish children she feels profound sadness and remorse for the harm caused. She had been selected to lead the incoming mayor's office of appointments to handle talent recruitment strategy and previously worked in the mayor's office, at a communications firm and at Sotheby's. Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani accepted her resignation amid scrutiny over his positions on Israel.
