""It's an honor to be mentioned with names like that," Schaefer said. "You grow up hearing about those guys and what they did for the game and for this franchise.""
""I have to give credit to Bo - he found me clean," Schaefer said. "With the screen in front, I just tried to get it low blocker.""
""It wasn't our best game," Roy said, "but good teams find ways to win, and we defended well when it mattered.""
Matthew Schaefer scored his 14th goal, moving past Bobby Orr for the second-most goals by an 18-year-old defenseman and trailing only Phil Housley. The goal was his fourth game-winner, establishing a new Islanders rookie defenseman record and tying Vladimir Malakhov for second-most goals by an Islanders rookie blueliner. Carson Soucy opened the scoring off a Maxim Shabanov feed, and Ilya Sorokin made 20 saves in a 2-1 victory that completed a four-game season sweep of the Rangers. The Islanders recorded their third straight win and improved in back-to-back situations, while the Rangers have lost 10 of 12 games.
