The Yankees faced another disappointing series in Miami, adding pressure as they strive to reverse their fortunes. The Toronto Blue Jays similarly struggled, losing a series against the Kansas City Royals. Chris Bassitt pitched well for Toronto but after his exit, the bullpen faltered, allowing Kansas City to tie the game and eventually score crucial runs. Seranthony Domínguez encountered difficulties in the tenth inning, leading to the Royals taking the lead with a two-run single from Tyler Tolbert.
Chris Bassitt was typically solid for Toronto, allowing just one hit and one run over six, striking out five and walking three. The Jays dropped the weekend series to the Royals as their shaky play of late continued.
Once Bassitt departed, Toronto turned to their bullpen, which much like the Yankees' was recently renovated at the trade deadline, to protect the one-run lead. Brendon Little pitched a scoreless seventh, but Louie Varland, freshly imported from the Twins, came on for the eighth and found himself in a bit of trouble.
In the tenth, Seranthony Domínguez, newly from the Orioles, had a rough go of it. Kyle Isbel doubled on Domínguez's first pitch, scoring the zombie runner immediately.
Domínguez then walked and hit a batter, and suddenly, KC had the bases loaded with no out. Tyler Tolbert opened the game up with a two-run single.
