Myanmar earthquake survivors in dire need of aid, UN warns
Briefly

A month after the magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Myanmar, humanitarian agencies report dire conditions for survivors. The UN highlights critical needs for safe shelter, clean water, and health care. Ongoing civil unrest, stemming from the 2021 military coup, has left over three million displaced and nearly 20 million reliant on aid. Many survivors are in makeshift shelters, bracing for monsoon weather and the threat of waterborne diseases. Death tolls have risen to 3,770 as aftershocks continue to pose risks, further complicating the situation for affected communities.
Critical needs remain for safe shelter, clean water and sanitation, physical and mental health care, comprehensive protection services and cash assistance, according to the UN's report.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies reported many displaced people are living outdoors in extreme temperatures, fearing further aftershocks.
