Nicole Wen, 25, shares her experiences commuting to work with her father at AT&T, highlighting how these car rides allowed them to connect deeply. Over time, she learned about his social life and leadership journey after immigrating from Taiwan. His advice on having a supportive network inspired Wen to engage in diverse activities at work, such as joining an employee resource group focused on charity. These experiences underscore the importance of familial bonds and mentorship in professional development.
My dad moved to America from Taiwan when he was 14 years old. He had to learn English, went to high school in California, and then to college in New York, where he met my mom.
The more I got to know my dad, the more I realized he's a pretty cool guy. I learned he has more friends than I do.
He inspired me to join an employee resource group. We do a lot of charity work and fundraising events.
During those car rides, he also shared a lot of life advice with me.
