Guen Fiore's Proud Portraits of Girls Coming Into Their Own
Briefly

Guen Fiore's debut photo book presents an intimate collection of portraits of young women taken since 2018. Self-taught and inspired by social media, Fiore sought to showcase the real beauty of her subjects, who were often not recognized for their uniqueness. Her work reflects her struggle with societal beauty standards, revealing her desire to portray women truthfully, celebrating their individuality. Fiore emphasizes the importance of representation, noting that her photography has also aided her personal journey of recognizing her own beauty, fostering empowerment both within herself and her subjects.
The first picture marked my direction as a photographer, and it reminds me why I love to take pictures, and what I really believe in.
Growing up in Italy, I was very influenced by the concept of beauty. You always grow up with the idea that you really don't fit with what you see.
I have found myself sometimes trying to convince people that the girls that I photograph are beautiful. I always feel like, how is it possible that you don't see it?
Maybe photography has helped me see the beauty in those girls, which helped me to see beauty in myself as well, which I have always struggled with.
