Sun, Skin, Stillness: See AnOther's Annual Summer Photocall
Briefly

Summer is characterized by warmth, joy, and simple pleasures, represented through imagery of sun, water, and friendship. It evokes a sense of relaxation and nostalgia, capturing moments of laughter, ocean dips, and sharing experiences. The essence of summer is encapsulated in vibrant visuals, such as portraits and still lifes, reflecting the beauty of nature and life’s simple moments. These experiences lead to feelings of excitement, wonder, and a surrender to the essence of the season, marking it as a cherished time for individuals.
This girl I shot in Filicudi, Italy last year in August represents summer for me. The heat, the sun, the water, an Italian girl I had never met and she let me take her portrait.
Summer's the time I look forward to most. It's staying out late and laughing with friends until my ribs hurt. You jump in the ocean for a dip, pick fresh blueberries, and everything starts to feel simple again.
When asked to choose an image that represents summer to me, I spontaneously thought of this still life. I particularly like the poetry of its light, composition, colours and textures.
In summer, we surrender.
