The Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD) hosted its annual Photography Show at the Park Avenue Armory, attracting 64 exhibitors and setting a record with almost 15,000 visitors. Executive director Lydia Melamed Johnson highlighted the Armory's iconic status and the fair's positive reception following a challenging market period. The global art market has faced a decline in overall sales, yet there is optimism stemming from increased interest in more affordable art, particularly in the middle market segment, reflecting changing consumer preferences and a post-pandemic resurgence in New York.
I can't think of another venue in the world-except maybe the Grand Palais-that is such an iconic place to see art, and that it's expected that great art will live in this building when it's here.
Some of that is maybe going back to the re-emergence of New York and all of that post-pandemic, but I think there's a real excitement about the fair coming back to the Armory after a bit of a pause.
It was really fascinating to see what they reported on in terms of the middle market and how the more accessible price points were actually up in the volume.
The foot traffic, the buzz... we've just found there's an incredible response to our fair.
