"Portland's downtown and Central Eastside could always use a little love and community care. Here's where We Believe in Portland comes in: the nonprofit's yearly event invites companies to participate in a 300-block scrubdown. Everyone will meet at Pioneer Courthouse Square, where buckets and trash grabbers will be provided to registered businesses and participants. Each group will be designated an area to clean, and dumpsters will set up. Last year's event cleaned up more than 800 pounds of garbage, which is both cool and gross!"
"Amber Ambedo sounds like it could be the name of a singer, but in this case, it's the title of an orchestral rock band with absolutely no vocals. Their songs are transportive and atmospheric, with layered drums, bass, guitar, piano, and viola. See them perform live the same day their debut full-length album comes out at Hawthorne Hideaway with fellow local rock bands Kodiakoma and John Saint Just."
"The show opens with grunge group the Eye See Yous, who started putting out music this year, and the Kelevras follow with their fast-paced punk. Next up: Slacker rock band Sanity Please, who's been playing music around Portland for awhile but just released their first single "Travel Girl" in June. Poppy surf rock band Odd Blossom headlines the night with danceable tracks off their recent debut full-length."
A citywide cleanup invites companies and volunteers to meet at Pioneer Courthouse Square for a coordinated 300-block scrubdown with provided buckets, trash grabbers, designated areas, and dumpsters. The prior year's effort removed over 800 pounds of garbage. Local music events include an orchestral rock performance by Amber Ambedo at Hawthorne Hideaway on the day of their debut full-length release, joined by Kodiakoma and John Saint Just. A Support Your Local Music series at Bunk Bar presents eight shows of four bands each, featuring grunge, punk, slacker rock, and surf-influenced acts, with local sponsorship support.
