An affluent Bay Area town's last bar standing is a 91-year-old cash-only dive
"Founded in 1935, the Roundup Saloon is the oldest continuously operating business in Lafayette. Originally called Lou's Bar, it served a much more rural version of Lafayette."
"By the 1970s, the bar had traded horses for Harleys and was known as a biker hangout. 'The true bikers are actually really nice,' Karen Johnson said."
The Roundup Saloon, established in 1935, is the only dive bar in Lafayette and the entire Lamorinda region. Originally known as Lou's Bar, it served a rural community and allowed horses at the bar. Over the decades, it transitioned from a horse-friendly establishment to a biker hangout. Despite the area's rising affluence, the Roundup remains a unique fixture, contrasting with the upscale environment of Lafayette, which has no other dive bars and becomes a 'booze desert' by 10 p.m.
