The UK's National Cyber Security Center has urged organizations to upgrade to Windows 11 before the October deadline for Windows 10 support ends. Continuing to use outdated operating systems poses significant security risks, as these become prime targets for cyber criminals. Windows 10 will reach end-of-life status in 2025, despite its ongoing usage in enterprises. Companies face challenges with hardware requirements needed for Windows 11, which may incur short-term costs. The NCSC released updated configuration packs to assist with deployment and noted a risk of increased e-waste if updates are not adopted.
The NCSC implores any organisation that has not already migrated to a more modern system to do so to help address security vulnerabilities in your devices and ensure overall cyber resilience.
While Windows 10 was released more than a decade ago, it is still used widely by enterprises and not upgrading is akin to incurring a debt at a high interest rate.
