The University of Michigan has been criticized for hiring private investigators to surveil pro-Palestinian student protesters on campus. These investigators, working for a Detroit-based security firm, engaged in questionable activities, including harassing students and trailing them to gather evidence. Reports indicate these actions have led to student protests resulting in legal charges, although recent charges have been dropped. University officials justified these actions as necessary for campus security, igniting debate over the appropriateness of such measures against student activism.
It's so insane that they have spent millions of dollars to hire some goons to follow campus activists around. It's just such a waste of money and time.
The state attorney general dropped the charges two weeks ago. In April, police raided the homes of five pro-Palestinian student activists in Ann Arbor for alleged "acts of vandalism."
