Dell laptop PCs within the Latitude and Precision ranges have over 100 models vulnerable to a series of five common vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities, identified as ReVault, can allow malicious actors to maintain access to devices despite system reinstalls, bypass Windows Login, and grant local users admin rights. The vulnerabilities are linked to the ControlVault3 solution, which manages security data. Notably, these laptops are prevalent in sensitive environments requiring heightened security, such as cybersecurity and government settings.
The vulnerabilities on ControlVault USHs were potentially highly dangerous. These laptop models are widely-used in the cybersecurity industry, government settings and challenging environments in their rugged version.
Sensitive industries that require heightened security when logging in - via smartcard or NFC - are more likely to find ControlVault devices in their environment, as they are necessary to enable these security features.
