At Least 1,277 Measles Cases Identified in 2025 So Far - the Highest Number Since 1992
Briefly

The number of measles cases in the United States has reached 1,277 across 38 states and Washington, D.C., the highest in over 30 years. This surge includes 155 hospitalizations and three deaths among unvaccinated individuals. Deaths from measles were last recorded in 2015, with youth deaths seen since 2003. The CDC reports that 92% of cases involved unvaccinated or individuals with an unknown vaccination status. Experts deem this surge a policy failure, as measles was virtually eradicated around 2000.
"At least 1,277 confirmed cases have been identified in 38 states and Washington, D.C. Around 155 people have required hospitalization, with three individuals - two otherwise healthy children and one adult, all unvaccinated - having died so far."
"We worked so hard to eliminate the threat of measles and to keep it at bay," said Claire Hannan, executive director of the Association of Immunization Managers.
