Connor McAuliffe, a 34-year-old EMT, was arrested for receiving and possessing child pornography. He was identified by a 2023 criminal investigation led by South African police as an active participant in encrypted groups trading child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Analysis of McAuliffe's cellphone revealed participation in around 100 chat groups, which included titles indicating focus on CSAM. Investigators found that he had downloaded about 1,500 images and 50 videos depicting the sexual abuse of boys aged nine to eleven. McAuliffe is set for a hearing on August 12.
McAuliffe was charged with one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography after being arrested at his home.
