Walgreens says no 'proof' needed for vaccine as Calif. COVID rates double

Wastewater surveillance has shown high levels of COVID-19 in California since June. Hospitalizations in the state rose 144% from early July through the end of August, though current hospitalization levels remain well below winter 2020–2021 peaks. Bay Area case trends have slowed overall, but many San Francisco test sites continue to see increases. The FDA now limits vaccine eligibility for adults under 65 to those with qualifying underlying conditions. Walgreens allows self-attestation of qualifying conditions and requires no documentation. Major medical groups recommend all adults receive a COVID-19 shot, and some clinicians warn mixed guidance may hinder vaccination uptake.
