Family-owned Bay Area farm reportedly sold for $12M in all-cash deal
"The 76-year-old Olivera Egg Ranch, which permanently closed at the end of March, reportedly sold to real estate developer Robson Homes in a $12 million all-cash deal, according to the Mercury News, which reviewed records filed at the Santa Clara County Clerk-Recorder's Office on Sept. 16. Permits submitted to the city of San Jose in February show that Olivera Egg Ranch is slated for demolition to build 25 single-family homes."
"It's unclear when the development project is expected to begin. SFGATE reached out to Robson Homes for comment but did not hear back by publication. According to the Mercury News, Robson Homes struck a deal with Olivera Egg Ranch owner Edward Olivera Jr. to purchase the 2.7-acre farm at 3315 Sierra Road back in 2021. Olivera Egg Ranch had been a San Jose fixture since the 1940s, when locals could stop by the farm to purchase fresh poultry and eggs."
"The Mercury News reports that one point, Olivera Egg Ranch owned 715,000 egg-laying hens. In recent years, Olivera Egg Ranch faced unprecedented hurdles like the global pandemic and avian flu cases, which drastically drove consumer egg prices up. External factors made operating more challenging and led Olivera to announce the closure of his family farm earlier this year."
