Oheka Castle, a historic estate on Long Island, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy with debts exceeding $60 million. The castle, notable for its lush gardens and European style, has a rich history, serving various roles from a retreat for sanitation workers to a military academy. Despite financial challenges, the hotel manager affirms that over 200 events, mainly weddings, will continue as planned, with operations still active for upcoming years. The community expresses a strong desire to preserve the estate's beauty and significance for future generations.
"Right now, it's really just restructuring of pre-existing debt," Kessler said. "Oheka Castle hosts over 200 events every year - most of them weddings. We are open for business."
"It's every girl's dream to get married at Oheka Castle," she said. "Any excuse we have to go back, we go."
