Alex Karp purchased St. Benedict's Monastery and its surrounding ranch near the Aspen Snowmass resort for $120 million. The property covers 3,700 acres in the Capitol Creek Valley and includes water rights to irrigate 1,500 acres. The monastery compound contains the monk's residence, a chapel, a communal dining hall, a library, meeting rooms, a retreat center, multiple guest cabins, and several agricultural buildings. Pitkin County recorded a special warranty deed transferring the property to Espen LLC, registered in Delaware. Trappist Monks built the monastery in the mid-1950s, the order closed it in 2023, and a final public mass is scheduled for Jan. 11. Karp owns a 500-acre primary residence in New Hampshire and about 20 properties worldwide.
